What a difference 74 years makes juxtaposition of Jaguar Mark VII, 1950 & Jaguar Type 00 Concept, 2024. The news and social media media in the UK have been busy with Jaguar's new concept today so I thought I'd pitch it. First of all some context: Jaguar has been owned by Indian Multinational Tata Motors since 2008. Recently Jaguar has been doing badly, at present they don't make any saloons or sports cars at all. Their most recent model, the I-Pace electric crossover was introduced in 2018 and is scheduled to be discontinued in 2025. The E-Pace compact SUV is about to end production leaving the F-Pace SUV (introduced in 2015) as their only offering. On November 18 the Jaguar brand was relaunched with a new logo and aimed at a new, more rarified market. The Type 00 is a concept that points to the future style of Jaguar cars. It is not a "production intent" concept, their first "reimagined" production car will be an electric four‑door GT – to be revealed in late 2025. The important thing to note about their new saloon is that it will sell for around £120,000, twice the price of the last XJ saloon when it was discontinued in 2019. I have juxtaposed the Type 00 with the Mark VII because it was also launched at a time when Jaguar was repositioning itself in post-war Britain and was a high-end saloon, the first to use Jaguar's then new XK DOHC straight 6. Jaguar are taking a huge risk with their new electric saloon, only time will tell if their strategy will work but I have never seen a concept car get as much news coverage and comment as the Type 00

The most recent Formula E race had been a chaotic mix of brilliance and drama, and her blog was already buzzing with traffic from fans eager for her insights. A faint knock at the door pulled her attention away from the screen. She frowned briefly, not expecting anyone so early in the morning. She stood, coffee mug in hand, and made her way to the door.

When she opened it, the sight of Mitch Evans standing there was both surprising and oddly familiar. Dressed casually, his hair messy, he clearly hadn’t shaved, but his signature grin played on his lips. "Morning." He greeted, eyes scanning her face. "What a nice surprise." She raised an eyebrow, stepping aside to let him in. "Surprise? You’re the one who asked to come on the podcast." He said. "Well the last time we tried to 'film a podcast' we came close to filming something entirely different." He walked in, glancing around her apartment with a faux sense of curiosity. "You're apartment looks good. Nicer than ehat I would’ve imagined." Rolling her eyes, she shut the door behind him. "Oh, please. It’s not like you’ve never been here before."

He chuckled, running a hand through his hair. "Can’t say I remember much of it." He grinned leaning onto the kitchen counter. "Could’ve been the wine." She said, standing in front of him, her eyes scanning his face, his returning the gesture. "Could be." He replied with a smirk. He stood up, making her take a pace backwards as he strolled towards the fridge and opened it without hesitation and grabbing a can of Coke. "Still stocking these for me, huh?"

She sat back down into her seat, crossing her arms. "You’re the only one who drinks them, so yes." He popped the can open with a grin. "Appreciate the dedication." He said as the can brushed over his lips and he downed a mouthful. "Those are bad for you, you know." She reminded him as always. "Does it stop me from racing?" She shook her head. "How about winning?" Her face twisted into a wicked grin. "Maybe from winning a championship, but otherwise-"

"You cheeky little-"

"As much as I like the foreplay, Mitch, I have a job to do so." She pulled her notepad over towards her and clicked her pen. "What do you want to talk about? Anything off limits?" She asked, watching as he leaned against the counter, sipping his drink like he owned the place. "Anything you want." He replied. "Your show, your rules."

She quickly briefed him on the topics; Formula E, his recent win, and a few lighthearted segments. Satisfied, he nodded, and the two made their way toward her podcast room.

As she set up her cameras, Mitch amused himself by tapping the microphone. "Check, check, one-two." He joked in an exaggerated announcer voice. She turned, giving him a look. "The mics are fine, Mitch. Just don’t break them." Grinning, he watched as she sat down on front of him. He watched her fix her hair. He didn’t knwo what to do with himself in that moment, and so he chose to rest his hands on his lap. "Ready when you are."

Settling further into her chair, she adjusted her headset and met his gaze. "Just be careful with your words, okay? Try not to make it obvious we’ve been sleeping together." His smirk widened, mischief sparkling in his eyes. "I’ll do my best."

Y/n clicked the stop button on her recorder, the soft hum of her podcast setup going quiet. "And that’s a wrap." She said, leaning back in her chair with a satisfied smile. Across the table, Mitch Evans stretched his arms, letting out a low sigh. "I don’t know about you-" He said. "But that deserves a glass of wine." Y/n chuckled, standing to organize her notes. "Mitch, we both know where wine leads." He placed a hand over his heart, feigning injury. "Are you saying you don’t like where it leads?" She rolled her eyes but grinned at his playful tone. "Of course I do. But maybe I want to at least pretend to play hard to get."

"Oh, by all means." He said, standing and gesturing toward the kitchen. "Go ahead and try. I’ll wait." Shaking her head, Y/n led the way into her kitchen, where a small collection of wine bottles stood on the counter. She ran her fingers along the labels before turning to him. "Which one?" He shrugged, leaning casually against the doorway. "Surprise me. Not that we’ll be drinking for long." She paused, her hand hovering over a bottle, and sighed. "Mitch-" He tilted his head, studying her. "What?"

"I just… I really don’t want every time we hang out to end like-" She gestured vaguely between them. His brow furrowed. "Like what?"

"You know. Drinking, talking, and then… ending up in a bed somewhere in the world." She said, avoiding his gaze. "It feels… wrong, sometimes. Like it’s all we do." Mitch straightened, his teasing demeanor faltering. "I can go if you want me to."

"No." She said quickly, meeting his eyes. "I don’t want you to go. I just want to see if it can go....elsewhere." For a moment, he said nothing, then smirked, his playful tone returning. "What, are you fishing for some off-the-record information for the podcast?" Y/n groaned, pouring two glasses of wine and sliding one across the counter to him. "Not everything is work, Mitch." He looked up at her, his eyes seeming darker than usual. "Yeah, I forgot, you like to keep work and pleasure on two very different sides of the table." He watched her as she took a sip of her wine. "Okay, let’s play a game then." She raised an eyebrow. "What kind of game?"

"Two truths and a lie." He said, taking a sip of his own drink. "You in?" Y/n grinned, shrugging her shoulders and finally sitting back down. "Sure. Why not?" She said, twirling the rim of her glass with her finger. "You can go first."

"Alright." He said, setting down his glass. "I’ve driven over 300 kilometres an hour, I once dyed my hair blonde on a dare, and… I have a girlfriend." Y/n frowned, studying him. "I'm hoping for my sake that the lie is the girlfriend." He grinned. "Wrong. The lie is the blonde hair."

Her jaw dropped. "Wait, what? You’re seeing someone?" Mitch grinned at her surprised expression. "Nah." He said, taking another sip of wine. "But I did dye my hair once." She glared at him. "I need to see a photo as evidence."

"Trust me, sweeheart, you're never gonna see it. Now-" He said, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Your turn." Y/n thought for a moment before speaking up. "I’ve failed my driving test twice, I have a tattoo, and I didn’t like when we used whipped cream that one time in Berlin." Mitch leaned forward, his gaze narrowing as he studied her. "Whipped cream. You loved it. Easy." Y/n tutted, shaking her head as she leaned forward. "Nope." She said, smirking. "I did however pass my driving test first try." He gasped. "You didn't like the whipped cream?" Y/n laughed. "Mitch-"

"I thought you liked the whipped cream."

"It was okay, but it just seemed like you were occupied eating the wrong thing." She explained, sipping her wine. "Listen, I'm sorry but I like whipped cream with my dessert." That phrase alone made Y/n spit her wine out everywhere. "Mitch that was disgusting!" She giggled. "You started it! Hold on, I'll grab a towel." He said standing up. "Honestly didn't think I'd have to be saying that to you this early into the day but here qe are." He said chucking the towel towards her.

As she cleaned it, he watched her intently. Her curves, how her hair was messy but at the same time seemed like it was perfect. He liked thwir routine, he didn't exactly have much time for anything else and she made it clear she was the same. So how did this arrangement that started in hotel rooms make its way back to Monaco where they both lived? "You’re confusing. You know that?" Y/n's smile faded as she looked up at him. "Excuse me?" She asked. "I mean, you said you didn’t want this to go where it usually goes but you bring up the whipped cream."

"I didn't say that, I said I wanted to play hard to get, maybe postpone it a bit. Maybe have some meaningful conversation." Y/n said in defence. "All I got from this conversation was that you don't want me to bring whipped cream to your hotel room anymore. Or any room for that matter." He was getting worked up and over what? Was his schedule that tight that he had a little time slot just for her in his diary? "Well then how about you come over here and do something about it?" His once flustered face wharped into a wicked smirk.

"Alright, sweetheart. Since you want to be that way..."

Seamlessly integrated video and lighting from Akhila Krishnan and Jessica Hung Han Yun respectively paint winding country roads and miserable London tower blocks, while psychedelic effects ripple across the walls in queasy tones of velvety purple and lime green.

“It all rattles by at breezy pace, and although the play lacks the acidity and bite of the film, this remains an entertaining, satisfyingly skewed sitcom packed with eminently quotable lines that will linger in your head like an unshakeable hangover.”

My Lego Racers!

So last week I added another racer to my lineup! A few years ago my mom picked up a couple Lego race-car sets for my birthday: one was a Ferrari F8 Tributo and the other came with a Jaguar Formula E and Jaguar I-PACE.

The Jags are driven by a pair of Scottish twins who I named Alice and Alex, because I liked the alliteration and because I was amused by the idea of their parents later realizing they'd made a mistake giving their kids such similar-sounding names.

I named the Ferrari driver Alejandro, and I decided he's Alex's Italian boyfriend.

Last week I picked up this model of a Mustang Dark Horse for the heck of it, and I was delighted that it came with a cool racer with an undercut and sleeveless hoodie. I named her Wendy and decided she can be Alice's Yankee girlfriend.

And I think they make a dashing pair.
